Use Scotch-Brite™ Ultra Fine Hand Pad 7448+ instead of fine steel wool for pre- and post-processing metal surfaces and for preparing substrates for painting. Our grey pads are designed to work cleaner and longer than steel wool, and unlike steel wool, they don't fray during use, rust after use, or leave behind fine metal splinters. Scotch-Brite Ultra Fine pads are packed with densely packed silicon carbide abrasive grains, a very sharp synthetic material typically used in low-pressure applications such as paint preparation. The densely packed particles deliver consistent, uniform abrasive action throughout the pad's life, and the mineral breaks down faster than aluminum oxide for a superior finish. They are designed for ease of use and fit into tight corners and surfaces with small details without changing the dimensions of the base material. Use them for cleaning, finishing, and polishing without needing to adjust, flip, or replace them mid-job. Our versatile hand pads are a good addition to any workshop's toolbox and can be used manually, combined with a hand pad block, or on a belt sander for faster work on larger areas. Scotch-Brite abrasive sponges are unique surface conditioning products consisting of abrasive grains embedded in non-woven nylon fibers. The combination of abrasive grains and non-woven material creates an abrasive system that delivers consistent results throughout the pad's life. The open web material stays cool during use and is clog-resistant, allowing the abrasive minerals to maintain high performance because the nylon fibers clog less easily.
