Hydraulic compactors popular tools for tackling drought

We are currently experiencing drought in the Netherlands. While it is not yet extreme, it is important to monitor water levels before the summer begins in earnest. Low precipitation primarily affects agriculture and nature reserves. These areas are wholly dependent on the surrounding ditches and rivers. If the water levels in these waterways is too low, insufficient water can be extracted.

It appears that summers in the Netherlands are becoming warmer and drier, which means we will experience drought and low river water levels more often. In times of drought, the available freshwater from the major rivers and lakes is divided among all water users as well as possible using weirs, pumping stations and locks. The water authorities and Rijkswaterstaat (the national water management agency) carefully monitor water levels and ensure that the rain that does fall is captured.

KHP450 hydraulic compactor for Waterschap Rijn en IJssel
Waterschap Rijn en IJssel, a water authority in the east of the Netherlands, is currently constructing many weirs. Weirs keep water in ditches before it enters larger streams or rivers. This allows the water to infiltrate the soil better to replenish local groundwater reserves. Weirs are built using wooden boards or steel sheet piles. This KHP450 makes weir construction straightforward. The hydraulic compactor is supplied with a support to simplify transport.

After renting this KHP450 several times, they discovered that the hydraulic compactor could be used for many different tasks and thus decided to purchase it. Gé Brouwer, a service operator at Waterschap Rijn en IJssel, is pleased with the purchase of the hydraulic compactor and plans to use it often.

Hyrax 700 hydraulic compactor for Gebr. Beentjes BV
Stefan van der Gragt, who regularly operates this machine for Gebr. Beentjes BV, knows all about it.

More than 100 new dams and new ditches will be constructed in the expansive polder near Den Oever during the coming year to ensure that water can infiltrate the ground. Thankfully Stefan has access to a Hyrax 700. This Hyrax 700 was first used following the failure of an old hydraulic compactor. After renting the hydraulic compactor for some time, Gebr. Beentjes BV has now purchased it.

Operator Stefan is very satisfied with the hydraulic compactor. Of course we are happy to hear this!

Dehaco wishes Waterschap Rijn en IJssel and Gebr. Beentjes BV the best with their new machinery!
